...and accidentally break a track record.

Apparently Ford took two GTs to VIR to try and troubleshoot a problem one of them was having, and in the process beat the Viper ACR’s track record by 1.4 seconds. Without even trying to set a fast lap. It was also 4.4 seconds faster than Car And Driver’s Lightning Lap in the GT.

Buddy of mine did something similar. Ended up setting a lap record while doing a shakedown run in his newly LFX-swapped Miata that hadn’t been driven in 8 months

Its worth noting that while C&D used the Grand West Course, the pre-pro lap was on the Grand Course layout which is the longest configuration of VIR. This is longer than even the Full Circuit layout which IMSA uses for GTLM.

What’s the difference between Grand Course and Grand West? Looking at google they appear to be different names for the same layout.

The thing is that when you look at the VIR website the layout listed as Grand Course is the Grand West layout.

VIR naming is silly. I was under the assumption that the difference in length was larger but there is only a 0.1 mile (160m) difference between Grand West and Grand (East) Course.

But still drivers matter. Billy Johnson is the Multimatic development driver whose seen most of the competition mustangs as well as the GT, and drives it for WEC.
